TECHNOLOGY
- Print the design using a printer with photo crystal ink on special two-layer foil for crystals. Print the design on the rough side of the foil. The design should be larger than the printing area on the crystal, with a 5 mm bleed on each side.
- After printing, dry the design, for instance with a hair dryer.
- Degrease the crystal and the glass plate that protects the design on the crystal.
- Place 4-10 drops of UV glue on the degreased crystal (depending on the size of the crystal). Spread the glue into an even layer with a plastic putty knife.
- Place the foil with the printed design on the layer of glue and remove any air remaining under the foil with a plastic doctor blade.
- Turn on a UV image setter. Insert the crystal into it for about a minute and remove any remaining air as in the previous step.
- Next, close the image setter, keeping the crystal inside for 5-10 minutes (depending on the size of the crystal) until the UV glue fully hardens.
- Once image setting is done, remove the external layer of the foil and the remaining bleed around the crystal with a knife.
- To protect the UV design, cover it once more with 4-10 drops of UV glue (depending on the size of the crystal) and spread it into an even layer as in Step 4.
- Place the protective plate on the design. Carefully remove any air remaining under the plate, press it firmly against the design and insert the crystal into the UV image setter for 5-10 minutes (depending on the size of the crystal).
- Once image setting is finished, remove any glue remaining on the sides of the crystal with a knife.
- You now have a crystal that makes a very original and eye-catching gadget.
